Books - July 2019

Another month has rolled around so that means it's time to share all the books I've read over the past few weeks.  A real mixture this time and I thoroughly enjoyed each and everyone.

Call Me Evie is a debut novel by New Zealand author JP Pomare.  Set in Australia and New Zealand, this was a real page turner.  It follows 17 year old Kate and her uncle "Jim", something terrible has happened in Australia so they are now living in the small North Island town of Maketu.  There are two story lines, before and after,  and it will keep you guessing until the end.

The Lost Girls of Paris by Pam Jenoff is a historical fiction novel about a group of women who were spies for a top secret government division during World War II. Fans of the Alice Network will enjoy this one.

The Island of Sea Women by Lisa See is set on the Korean island of Jeju and follows the life stories of two girls from very different backgrounds as they work as sea divers for the village's all women collective.  This is a deeply moving book and definitely a favourite read of 2019 so far.

When the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens took me two days to read!  The main character of the book, Kya, is 7 years old when everyone in her family abandons her and she learns to fend for herself. She becomes known as "the Marsh girl" to people and when a tragedy strikes, she is blamed. I loved everything about this book and didn't want it to finish, another top pick for my 2019 favourite books. Days later and I'm still thinking about this book!

Lost Roses by Martha Hall Kelly was started back in May and I've finally finished the last few chapters. This novel is a prequel to the Lilac Girls, and features Caroline Ferriday's mother Eliza during WWI and the Russian Revolution. Another good read.

So what's on your reading list for the next few months?

See you soon xx
