Only a few days now until my stitching group's annual exhibition opens on Friday and I can feel myself getting more and more excited as the end of the week approaches.
A little background information for you: several years ago a good friend of mine, who happens to be a stitcher suggested that we hold an exhibition as a fundraiser for the community service I am the manager of. Along with several other stitching friends we got all our cross stitch together and we had our first very exhibition in 2000. From this very first exhibition we meet lots of other local people who were very interested in forming a group that could meet regularly. At first we met once a month on a Sunday afternoon but soon we added the last Tuesday evening in the month to cater for those people who wanted to join but couldn't make the Sunday group for some reason or another. At one one stage we had well over 35 members on our newsletter list and would have between 10 -18 people coming along for a session of stitching and chatting.
So each year on the 2nd weekend of May we hold an exhibition for the members 0f the group to display the cross stitch they have done during the previous twelve months. It is a lot of hard work organising it - publicity, thinking of guest exhibitors or other crafts we might be able to display, etc, but I get a lot of help and support from my co-workers, members of the xstitch group and sponsors of the weekend.
Roll on tomorrow when we start setting up, can't wait to see it all come together. I'm also looking forward to 'talking cross stitch' all weekend with the people that come to visit, lol, what more could an addicted stitcher like myself ask for!
