March Round Up

Well the first month of autumn has been and gone but it has really felt like our summer has been endless, weeks of hot and dry weather, I remember it being like that when I was a kid. Our daylight saving hours end this Sunday, on Easter Sunday, but it's already has been getting darker a lot earlier in the evenings, and it's getting harder to get up in the mornings, especially since its pitch black and feels like the middle of the night!

So here's a round up from March, some of these photos you may have already seen on Instagram.

This term every Wednesday afternoon, off Hannah and I go to the local tennis club courts. I played tennis, school and club, throughout my schooling years so I'm really pleased Hannah has decided to give it a try too.  Sadly I don't even own a racket these days, something I might have to purchase down the track. So while Hannah is getting her lesson I find a shady spot with my cold drink and get to read for a whole hour with no interuptions!!

We have been continuing to enjoy lots of tomatoes and lettuce from our garden, they are about the only vegetables to do well over our hot summer. One night recently I made one of my favourite dishes, self crusting quiche with plenty of grated zucchini, carrots, sweetcorn, leftover veges from the night before and bacon. Served with salad and homemade tomato relish, yum!

Earlier in the month I spent the day out with the staff and clients from work. How's this for a great view looking over Hawkes Bay?

Looking back towards Napier way off in the distance. Everywhere you look there are brown paddocks.

A little bit of stash came in the mail - looking forward to starting Cherish Life, part 4 of the Shepherds Bush Fold, during Easter.

I decided to continue on with the Cottage Gardens Threads Club this year, it has a vintage sewing theme, and the first installment has arrived.

My current stitching project is A Yuletide Welcome by Plum Street Samplers. I've been really enjoying stitching on this, trying to get the house finished and I'm pleased to report it's mostly done minus the roof.

This gorgeous girl, my oldest niece Zoe, turned 14 this month - wow!  She's having a great year so far and is just loving college. Here she is with her Dad, my younger brother Marcus.

Hannah has just completed her first term of swim school - we have a wonderful pool facility in our little town,  and the staff and swimming instructors are just lovely.

Glenn and I spent last weekend in Wellington with a group of friends - we went to watch the Hurricanes rugby team play on Friday evening, yay, we won:)  Saturday evening we all went out to dinner to the Crab Shack, what a delicious meal we had. Might have done quite a bit of shopping too, hard not to when you're in Wellington, lol.

On the way home we stopped at Shannon for lunch and I got to indulge in one of my favourite custard squares, oh these are so divine!

I'm really looking forward to the Easter break and Hannah starts her school holidays for two weeks.   Donna, my cousin, will be here over the Easter break so no doubt there will be a lot of chatting going on, some yummy food, an Easter egg hunt,  and lots of chocolate being consumed!

Great post Katrina. You always seem to have achievements with your lovely stitcheries. Time I stopped procrastinating and get to with some finishing. Your blog is a wonderful inspiration. Yes we are starting to get cooler here in the Waikato as well and sorry to see daylight time finishing. Have a great Easter and look forward to seeing what you have done over the holiday. Have started to bring my knitting out now. Shirley

I love the Cottage Garden threads, colours are so yummy. I have also ordered a latest Gail Pan design stitchery "Vintage Sewing Collage". I can't wait for it to arrive and when it does I will be starting it straghtaway. I like all of her designs, I have a kit here of hers which I think I will ho and trace the stitchery out so that I can take it away to work on over the Easter break.

College at 14? The word must mean something different in New Zealand than it does in the US!
