Sad few days

I've been wanting to do an update for the past few days but really haven't had the heart to. Last Friday afternoon we said goodbye to our dear old kitty, Pudd pudd.

She'd been part of our lives for over ten years after we were asked to look after her by a friend that was going overseas. In those years, she's given us lots of good times, funny times, and unconditional love.

I noticed a few days before that she was a bit lethargic but thought it may be due to the hot weather we'd been having but then on Friday morning when I got up to feed her she seemed very odd and walking a bit strange. Because Glenn was going to be out on a job I called a friend who I knew had a kitty cage, and phoned the vet, who said to bring her in. The vet checked her over and told me that she was alot older than we thought she might be, we thought about 14, the vet thought maybe 17 0r 18 yrs, and what was happening was her kidneys and heart were under alot of strain and it was only going to get worse. I had to make the decision then to let her go, I didn't want to see her suffer after she'd been such a wonderful wonderful companion to us, she didn't deserve it, and she'd had a long happy life, we'd never had any reason to take her to the vets before. I tried to be brave but in the end lost it as Pudd was purring away at me right at the last minute as I said goodbye. It was like she was telling me its ok to let me go.

Needless to say, the weekend was very sad for us. The house seemed so quiet without her around, and I lost it again when I had to pack away the food bowls and bag up all the cat food we had left to give away. This Friday afternoon will be another sad time as I go back to the vets to collect Pudd's ashes but I know it also be a form of closure.

I've been asked several times this week if we'll get another kitty one day and I think Glenn would love to right now but I'm happy to wait a bit. Glenn's mum Heather volunteers at the local RSPCA animal shelter and I'm sure when the time is right, she'll help us to pick another kitty.

I've done very little stitching these past few days but I have stitched the "Home" of the Lizzie Kate Christmas Blessings and two of the JBW Designs advent calendar squares are done for my monthly SAL with Kath, Lisa and Pat. I also haven't spent much time on any of the BB's or visiting your blogs but I will catch up over the next few days.

before I go, a reminder that this coming weekend is March's needleroll stitchalong. I think I'm going to stitch the Olde English needleroll by the Sweetheart Tree. If you'd like to join me, please leave me a comment and I'll put a list on here so we can check out another's progress. There is also a stitchalong this weekend on the Friends Gather BB if you'd prefer to join us there.

Thank you for checking in on me. I hope you're having a wonderful week, and keeping cool if you're here in NZ or Aust, and keeping warm to all my friends on the other side of the world. Take care xx

I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your kitty. She's lucky to have had an owner caring enough to not prolong her suffering. She'll be waiting for you at the Rainbow Bridge.

I'll pat my two kitties for you tonight.

You are a wonderful furmommy and you and Glenn have given her a lovely life. It's a sad time when we have to say goodbye to such a treasured friend, but remember that your life is the better for having had her in it. *hug*

Aaah sorry to hear of your loss. I know for me when I had to have my dog put down, it's not the putting down, it's the decision of having to have the animal put down. Sending you lots of (((hugs))). Our Sam will be waiting for Pudd Pudd, he was a very friendly Springer!

Take care.x

Oh Katrina, I'm so sorry to hear about Pudd Pudd ... you did the right thing, though to not prolong the suffering. It's one of the hardest things an animal owner has to do, I think ... my thoughts are with you sweetie! {{{hugs}}}

Re the needleroll SAL, I might be bailing again this month ... not a great SAL partner so far this year huh? I'm not touching anything else aside from Bordeaux while I work on the CA Wells pieces ... as soon as the're out of the way, it's back to 'life as normal' ... I even had my needleroll all picked out this month too! :( Fingers crossed I'll be ready to join in next month! :D

Im sorry to hear about Pudd Pudd Katrina. Its such a hard thing to do...it always breaks my heart too. But as loving pet owners sometimes it is the last final kind thing we can do - even though it doesnt always feel like it. Take care xx

I found your blog via artisticneedle and had to take a moment to say how sorry I am to hear of your loss.

I know it must be raw for you just now and I can 100% relate to what you're feeling and going through. I made an almost identical post on my blog recently, in tribute to our wonderful companion 'Puss Puss', and it still breaks my heart to not have her here.

Pudd Pudd was lucky to have you. You made the right decision for your friend but I know how hard it must have been for you to make it.

Take care.

Hello Katrina,
it's so sad, I perfectly understand you, I had had to make the same decision some years ago for my faithful friend dog.
Petsare pieces of heart and part of our families, and they love us unconditionally.
I think people don't love animals even don't love humans, and you and Glenn will surely will able to give your love to another cat, and your Pudd would surely approve it.
Big hugs,
Veronica

What a beautiful kitty. I can understand how hard it is to let them go. 2 of mine are buried in my parents back garden and have a flowering bush over the top.
