Earlier in the year Glenn and I made a big and very exciting purchase, our very first camper van (or motorhome), which we were able to buy from friends that were upgrading to a new one. We'd been talking about it for awhile and it was too good an opportunity to turn down. As you can imagine, Glenn has lots of plans for remodeling the inside, and has made a small start on these changes over our winter. But for now, it's all set, kitted out and ready to hit the road!
Which is exactly what we did last weekend. As we had public holidays both Monday and Friday, it was the perfect timing for a mini get away to one of Central Hawkes Bay's gorgeous beaches, Porangahau Beach. This beach is close to home, only about a 45 minute drive south.
Filling the cupboards and fridge/freezer with everything we could possibly need was a lot of fun - we'd been saving all sorts of things for months. Beds made, food and drink, fishing gear, books and of course, stitching projects for me, all loaded and we were off.
The freedom camping site we stayed at for the four days is a great spot, many people with motorhomes, caravans and tents came and went all weekend.
Running near the beach and then out to the sea is the Porangahau River.
Two lots of our friends had set up their camper van and caravan near where we parked too and we all had a great time, lots of laughs and sadly, not a lot of luck with the fishing!

Oh The Place You Will Go! Looks like a wonderful place to go in your new campervan.
That looks like a lot of fun Katrina and so lucky for you that you were able to leave home with covid and the lockdowns .I can't wait until we can leave Auckland and head to our holiday place in Taupo. A change of scenery is desparately needed.
Congrats on your purchase, how fun!
Looks like a nice area to camp.
