I guess I'm not the only one thinking at the moment how fast the days and weeks seem to be passing by lately? So today's post is all about catching up,about what's been happening around here over the past few weeks.
Firstly, a little Blackbird Designs finish, Peace Rose, to be made into a little pin pillow sometime.
Christmas crafting is well and truly underway, and I have several "super secret" projects on the go too!
I came across this lovely Lizzie Kate design and had to start it straight away, it's from issue 195, November 2014, of Cross Stitch Crazy, a UK magazine.
Several weekends ago I traveled down to Wellington for the weekend to stay with one of my oldest friends, in years of friendship, not age, lol. Rebecca and I have been best friends since we were 12 years old, we met on our first day of high school. Bec's parents and other family members live locally so we get to catch up every few months but this was the first time I'd been to stay with Bec, her DH Shaun and her three children.
On the Friday night, as Shaun is the Head Chef/Partner at Logan Brown, I got treated out to dinner and wow, what an amazing experience. We were very spoiled, with some additional dishes coming our way. I tried oysters and whitebait for the first time in my life and my entree and main were so delicious.
Bec and I had to share dessert as we were really struggling to fit everything in by then, ha ha, and lastly, to finish, an expresso martini.
Something I've been wanting to do for several years now is go to the World of Wearable Arts Show which is held in Wellington every year. Bec was able to get some tickets for us to go so we headed along to the Saturday matinee show.
It was amazing, I loved every minute of the two hour show and was memorized by all the different costumes, music, dance, lighting, and the performers. I'll be definitely going again. The rest of the weekend was spent hanging out with Bec and her family, and I got to meet several of her friends at the show and afterwards we went for drinks and nibbles. Sunday afternoon, after a fantastic few days, it was time to head home.
Last Saturday we spent a few hours in Waipawa as it was the annual Duck Day, a town fair followed by the famous duck race down the river, yellow plastic ducks of course lol.
Spring has definitely arrived around these parts too, and we've had some gorgeous sunny days. We've already had our first barbecue of the season, I guess next weekend it will be time to get the swimming pool cover off and get it all cleaned out for the hot summer days ahead.
School holidays have just finished here and the kids are back to school for the final term of the year - what? It only seems like yesterday it was the start of the year! Hannah's after school activities are all go again and this term she starts tennis as well.
Have a fun weekend! See you soon x

Great catch-up post, Katrina! I love seeing spring pictures when the leaves are falling here. During the dark winter months, it's so nice to know the sun is shining and gardens are growing in the S. hemisphere. :D
Oh Katrina, good for you. How absolutely wonderful to spend a great weekend with your longtime friend. Your pink tree is gorgeous!
I love the Peace Rose and feel a need to start that one myself now, the colours are just beautiful. x
Love the Peace Rose design. Sounds like a very enjoyable weekend.
What a really cute BBD finish! Haven't seen anyone else do that one...yet! Just wait--yours will inspire! And I know I haven't seen the LK piece from that magazine! It looks adorable so far. If by any chance you have nothing else to stitch from/in the magazine, and want to get rid of it... hint hint... let me know! How nice that you spent some time with a childhood friend. It just dazzles me that you are coming into spring and then summer just as we get ready for the colder seasons! I like warmer better! Thanks for sharing! Hugs!
