Given the option, would you rather buy a chart and get the material and floss together yourself, or buy a pre-packed kit?
When I first started stitching I did buy several kits but then as I got more addicted to stitching and my stash collection grew I stuck with charts only - mostly because I had the floss or I'd change the fabric to linen anyway. However, now I'll buy kits, especially if the kit includes hand dyed threads or buttons as sometimes its more expensive for me to kit it myself, or time consuming by the time I track down all the supplies here in New Zealand. The most recent kit I purchased was Atelier de Broduese and before that it was Shepherd's Bush Happy Days needleroll and scissor fob.

Don't forget - you can just give me a holler when you need something that is hard to track down in NZ... or Karen can get it for you too :-)
I don't have a local shop to buy my supplies, so I tend to like kits too. SB is really nice to get all kitted up as they sometimes call for silks, so you get just what you need to stitch a project!
